Heading home today...

Thanks so much for all the great comments. I've been reading them to Carrie over the last couple of days. Sorry for the lack of another recent post, or more photos, but we've been kinda busy! :)

We're starting to get the hang of this new-parent thing. No matter how many classes you take, and how many books you read, and how many friends with babies, there's nothing like trying to manage it all at once. There's a lot of things to pay attention to all at once - and most of your decisions are made on 'feel'. It's sort of like learning to drive a stick-shift. You can read about it forever, and get someone to explain it to you... but until you feel the pedals - and steer, and brake, and not get lost - all at once...

Anyway, we ended up staying an extra day. No crisis, they just wanted to watch Jake's weight a little closer, since he dropped a bit more than they'd normally expect. He's climbing back up toward his birth weight now, and we're heading home today.

Meanwhile, here's a few more pictures.

And our favorite one so far. You see, our friends Amy & Darin have a great tradition. When their daughter Faith was born, they took a photo with a little stuffed bunny. Over the first year, they took lots more photos with the bunny - and even kept up the tradition on birthdays. (She's in first grade now.) Over time, flipping through those photos, you see how fast the kid grows.

So, this is Jake, with his little stuffed Potter puppy - and expect to see lots more of them!

So glad that you are all back at home now! Love the photo plan with the stuffed animal that looks like Potter...speaking of which, how does the real Potter like his new little brother so far? Sending my best always :)

Glad to hear you're home now and Jake can hang out in his super cool baby bedroom. Good luck with everything! Hope you have a wonderful first Thanksgiving with your little guy.

So happy to hear all is going well! I must say, your analogy of driving a stick shift is right on the mark - and I've found that just when you think you've got the hang of it, it changes, and you have to adjust, adjust, adjust.

Chase dropped quite a bit in weight. She started in the 27th percentile and dropped down to the 9th percentile, over four months, at which point the doctor told me to stuff my pride and go buy formula.

Adjust, adjust, adjust!

We agree with Lang - just as you think you have them figured out - they change. It is quite rude. :-) But so cute. And so worth it

You are both literally glowing. The Potter Puppy is such a great idea. Can't wait to meet little Jakey!

Welcome home Jake! And congrats to Kari and Carrie! I am sooooo happy for you both and look forward to meeting the little guy.

Today is Thanksgiving and damn do you both, and Jake, have lots to be thankful about.

Enjoy every moment together - the moments and changes are all for the better.

(and while sleep deprived, I can tell you from experience that you should stay away from sharp objects....)

Hugs to you all.
